Hurricane Helene: DfG’s Humanitarian Response

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, communities across North Carolina grappled with devastation. Amid the chaos, many girls and women found themselves without access to essential menstrual health products. Knowing that periods do not pause for emergencies, Days for Girls rallied our volunteers, and, through their humanitarian efforts, delivered Hybrid Kits—washable, reusable menstrual supplies—to 2,484 girls, ensuring they could manage their periods safely, with dignity, even during that time of upheaval. These Kits not only met urgent needs but also restored a sense of normalcy during a deeply challenging time.

Through partnerships with dedicated volunteers and local organizations, we reached girls who might have otherwise been overlooked. Our volunteers’ kindness demonstrated that even in the toughest circumstances, hope and dignity are possible. By working together, we helped turn periods into pathways for brighter, safer futures.

To further propel our efforts, we dedicated 2024’s International Day of the Girl fundraising campaign to our humanitarian work. While it is no longer International Day of the Girl, menstrual health aid remains a DfG priority. Natural disasters, crises, and systemic challenges continue to leave countless girls without the resources they need to thrive. Every girl deserves the opportunity to reach her full potential, no matter the obstacles she faces. And at Days for Girls, we work to ensure that no girl is left behind.
